Organizando Trans Diversidades Chile (Organizing Trans Diversities Chile) (OTD)

Civic and political participation
Introduction

Organizando Trans Diversidades Chile (Organizing Trans Diversities Chile) is a non profit association and it was founded on 2015.

Who

Organizando Trans Diversidades Chile (Organizing Trans Diversities Chile) (OTD) is a growing team of cis and transgender people and we build community from transfeminist activism, for the defense and promotion of Human Rights of trans diversities and their empowerment.

Why

For them, trans and intersex goals are closely related because both fight against pathologization of identities and bodies which are outside the sex-gender binary system. As the intersex community finds many obstacles for visibility, this research project is OTD’s way to help them start their own community.

Vision

A community based on the values and practices of democracy, in which all people can decide autonomously about their bodies and identities, without gender norms or social mandates.

OTD’s aims and objectives

Mainly we work on:

  • Education (offering talks and advice for public and private institutions about trans and transfeminist issues),
  • Health (creating new agreements with health institutions),
  • Public Policy and legal counselling(were we offer free legal advice for specific cases and also mobilise new laws which benefit trans community),
  • Psychological counselling (were we offer peer counselling, information about public and private services regarding trans health and psychological attention),
  • Community development (offering recreational and safe spaces for trans community to share, including their relatives and partners) and
  • Research (were we collaborate on research of different levels -undergraduate, scholars and postgraduate- and conduct our own research process on trans issues offering internships for national and international universities).
