Introduction

Association Spectra is a trans-led organisation that works for the protection and promotion of human rights of transgender, gender-variant and inter-sex people in Montenegro.

Who

Association Spectra fight gender-based violence in Montenegro through building a strong and visible movement, public lobbying, education and active engaging of trans, gender-diverse and intersex people.

Vision

Association Spectra’s vision is a society in which every individual has equal rights, in which all identities and bodies are respected, and all of our differences are celebrated.

Spectra’s aims and objectives

Through our work we are focused on several important areas:

Community building: They believe that only strong communities can lead to trans liberation.

  • Advocacy – They have started discussions around legal gender recognition with institutions and are going to be a part of working group for the creation of a new law, which according to National LGBTI Strategy needs to be adopted by 2023
  • Education – They have conducted pioneering research on discrimination of trans and gender diverse students in high schools of Montenegro.
  • Art –They believe in the transformative power of art, we use it to raise visibility, but also, primarily to challenge and overcome norms.
  • Intersectionality – In its work they are collaborating with many human rights movements.
